In a sense, Cindy, Charlotte and Rockie were time travelers. Being among the early batches of HC students to graduate from UM, they have returned to their alma mater to share their post-graduation experiences on September 27, 2019 as part of the HC Alumni Sharing Series.

Rockie, the first speaker, described a journey to realize his childhood dream of becoming a pilot. It was unexpected, he recalled, enrolling in a pilot training program after university. The program brought him across the globe to France to learn and develop himself, and ultimately returned him to Macau to work in Air Macau. He stressed the need to be comprehensive and not simply focus on academic excellence.

Charlotte shared her professional knowledge and experience in commercial and investment banking. She pointed out differences between the two types of banking and illustrated specific roles in a company. According to Charlotte, her work in sales and trading is enjoyable as it gives her exposure to global politics and economics, and also presents frequent challenges which she welcomes.

As a scholar who went to Portugal to take African Studies, Cindy has experienced a diverse work environment firsthand. In the sharing, she advocated for critical thinking. To take African Studies is to learn new perspectives of things, she said, to be more critical and ask questions is also something students educated in China should improve on.

Having experienced life after UM, the three alumni offered the current students of HC a glimpse of what they could become or want to become. Their advice differed, but they encouraged students to step out of their comfort zone and challenge the world.
