RESHC/2019/006

Short description of project
Tourism developers/managers always seek to find a balance between the benefits and costs of tourism development, in terms of economy, social and environments. A large body of literature have been devoted to the sustainable tourism development on these three aspects, focusing on understanding how host communities’ perceive the impacts tourism development. However, studies on understanding of host perception of tourism impacts had not reached a consistent agreements on how to avoid conflicts generated in the tourism development process. These conflicts could not only occur between local residents and developers/managers, but also occur between hosts and tourists. This study tries to understand how these conflicts could be generated/managed and strives to find an index to measure harmonious level of tourism destination. We hope the results could provide practical guidance to tourism development of Chinese characteristic towns.
