Honours College Certificate Programme (HC20)
(for students admitted to UM in Academic Year 2020/2021 and after)
- Enroll each semester on the degree programme at the student’s home unit.
- Maintain cumulative GPA* of 3.0 (cumulative Scale Average 14* for Faculty of Law students)
- Those with cumulative GPA* dropping below 3.0 but not below 2.95 would be placed on probation and would be given a grace period of one semester to achieve a cumulative GPA* of 3.0 or higher.
- Pass every subject taken at the partner University in the Study Abroad experience.
- For students admitted through recommendation of RC Masters and Dean of Students, maintain residency on RC except during study abroad period.
- Meet the English language proficiency requirement by obtaining certain scores from a public examination by the end of the first year of study at HC:
- TOEFL iBT 79 or above, or
- TOEFL Paper test 550 or above, or
- IELTS (Academic module) 6.5 or above
- For students in the following programmes, a valid CAPLE or CELPE-Bras exam certification at Level CIPLE (A2) or above should be obtained by the end of the first year of study at HC:
- Portuguese Studies
- Law in Chinese Language (Daytime and Evening)
- Law in Portuguese Language (Evening)
- Law (Conducted in Chinese and Portuguese)
*The above-mentioned cumulative GPA and cumulative Scale Average refer to a student’s overall performance in all the semesters of the specified years of studies.[/fusion_toggle]
- Complete the requirements of the degree programme at the student’s home unit.
- Complete the requirements of the Honours College Certificate Programme.
- Receive a “B” or higher grade for each of the honours courses taken.
- Satisfy the Study Abroad Experience requirement.
- Satisfy the four-semester RC residency requirement; for students admitted through recommendation of RC Masters and Dean of Students, satisfy the full (except study abroad period) RC residency requirement.
- Satisfy the leadership and service learning requirement by earning 900 cumulative competency score through the Whole Person Development Award Programme of the University. The 900 CS must include a minimum of 150 CS in each of the 5 core areas of development (Interpersonal Relation and Teamwork; Healthy Living; Cultural Engagement; Citizenship with Global Perspectives; Leadership and Service).
◊ The CS areas of development have been grouped into 7 areas starting from Academic Year 2021/2022 by the Student Affairs Office (SAO). For conversion between the 7 areas and the previous 5 areas, please check here.
- For students admitted through direct admission or open application – Has (1)cumulative GPA* of 3.3 (cumulative Scale Average* of 15 for Faculty of Law students) or above and (2)Honours College Certificate Programme cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above.
- For students admitted through recommendation of RC Masters and Dean of Students – Has (1)cumulative GPA* of 3.0 (cumulative Scale Average* of 14 for Faculty of Law students) or above and (2)Honours College Certificate Programme cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
*The above mentioned cumulative GPA and cumulative Scale Average refer to the overall performance of a student in all the semesters of the specified years of studies.

Honours Programme (HC17)
(for students admitted to UM in Academic Year 2017/2018 and after)
- Enroll each semester on the degree programme at the student’s home unit
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/ cumulative Scale Average 14 for Faculty of Law students
- For students admitted through recommendation of RC Masters and Dean of Students, maintain residency on RC except during study abroad period
- Complete the requirements of the degree programme at the student’s home unit
- Receive a “B” or higher grade for the specific research, project, internship requirement course of the degree programme at the student’s home unit
- Complete the requirements of the honours programme
- Receive a “B” or higher grade for each of the honours course and honours project taken
- Satisfy the study abroad experience
- Satisfy the RC Residency requirement
- Satisfy the leadership & service learning requirement
