The ‘Internet and Financial Fraud Prevention Tips Sharing’ event was successfully held on November 26, 2025, co-organized by the University of Macau Alumni Association (AAAUM) and the Honours College Student Association (HCSA), supported by the Bank of China (BOC) Macau Branch. The Deputy Director of BOC’s Digital Finance Department, Ms. Sabrina Choi, gave a thought-provoking speech to increase students’ understanding of fraud prevention.

The speaker discussed a number of common fraud scenarios that Macao residents and students may run into. She reminded everyone that scammers frequently take advantage of people’s trust and sense of urgency to lower their defenses. During her talk, she demonstrated how to prevent scam calls and theft of personal information. Participants received instruction on how to spot phishing emails and suspicious online messages, as well as how to better protect their personal information and banking credentials. Notably, Ms. Choi stated that one of the best things we can do is to pause and confirm the information with those who are close to us. She also urged participants to use the official channels offered by banks and emphasized the significance of developing vigilance in daily digital interactions in order to prevent tragedies.

The event was empowering as well as educational for the Honours College students. It reaffirmed the importance of digital responsibility and financial literacy in the connected world of today.
