To welcome a new academic year and a new batch of freshmen, the Honours College (HC) held a series of activities during HC September Promotion Month 2025. With a variety of engaging activities, HC Promotion Month not only introduced the mission and vision of HC but also offered students a glimpse into the dynamic and impactful life of an HC student. Below is a closer look at the key highlights of this inspiring month:

Residential Colleges and SAO Student Fair Promotion Booths
To ensure that every freshman had the opportunity to interact with HCers, information booths were set up at all ten residential colleges across campus, as well as at the SAO Student Fair. These booths served as vibrant hubs of activity, featuring personal experiences shared by current HC students, interactive mini-games, and consultations about the HC programme.

Rock Climbing Workshop
Held at the University’s outdoor climbing facility in the Sports Complex, the Rock Climbing Workshop offered more than just physical exercise—it was a metaphorical challenge to “climb higher” in personal growth and leadership. The HCSA invited the UM Rock Climbing Team to guide participants through both beginner and intermediate routes, helping students reflect on overcoming fear and pushing boundaries.

News Discussion Forum
Successfully held on September 17, Prof. Kuan Ju Lai from the Faculty of Law provided students with a platform to engage in thoughtful discourse on national and global issues, reinforcing HC’s mission to nurture socially responsible and informed citizens. Topics included national identity, history, and global governance. This forum served as a reminder that leadership is not only about individual achievement but also about understanding one’s role in society and contributing meaningfully to the nation.

MASDAW Dog Walking Volunteering
Rounding off the month’s activities, the Masdaw Dog Walking Volunteering event gave students the chance to engage in meaningful service while promoting animal welfare. Held in partnership with MASDAW (Macau Association for Stray Dogs and Animal Welfare), students had opportunities to walk dogs, clean enclosures, and learn about responsible pet care. For many, this was a heartwarming opportunity to give back to the community while developing the emotional intelligence and compassion that are key to strong, empathetic leadership.

The Honours College looks forward to welcoming a new batch of passionate, capable, and visionary students who are ready to embrace the HC mission and take their first steps toward becoming the future leaders of Macau and beyond.
