Aptly named “One Last Time”, the HC Talent Show began in the E31 Student Activity Centre at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. It may be the last time the HC hosts a talent show but the students of Class 2020 certainly made this go out with a bang.

Whether they were performing the sexily smooth “Ei Ei” dance or Ed Sheeran’s irresistibly cheery song “What Do I Know?”, the vibrancy of Class 2020 was unmistakable. An overarching drama connected every performance, giving them meaning. A story was told with every scene, dance and song. The audience witnessed an ungrateful and self-centered girl (played by the multi-talented Joana Fronteras SALAMANES, student from Class 2020) learn gratitude and restore broken relations with friends and family. Humorous at times, the drama also had an emotional edge, and tugged at the audience’s heartstrings with love-filled romance scenes.

The show was by no means flawless. When a prop toppled over during the dance of “City of Stars”, it drew many gasps from the onlookers. And “awkward” was the word to describe the lengthy pause that preceded the song “Where Has Time Gone”. What was impressive was the performers’ ability to take the unexpected in stride. The dancers did not miss a step. The singer, Dennis IAO, student from Class 2020, blew the crowd away with his powerful voice. Both acts ended in thunderous applause.

Emotions were running high by the time the whole class finally came out to sing “One Last Time” by Ariana Grande. It was clear that when the song ends, they may never see another talent show under the name of the HC ever again. Despite that, in the last five minutes under the stage light, only smiles could be seen.
