When you access the Wi-Fi or ring up a friend in Macau, chances are the services you use are provided by the Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau (CTM). Established in 1981, the company is now the number one telecom service provider in Macau. As part of the experiential learning of their communications course, the class of HONR1003 paid a visit to CTM on November 7, 2018.

The delegation from UM arrived in the afternoon and was received by representatives of the company. They were given an introduction on CTM corporate culture, followed by a talk on the digitalization of Macau. After the talks, they were shown around the CTM Network Management Centre, where they observed employees in their work environment. The learning trip was concluded with a group photo.

“By visiting CTM, students can better understand the impact of communication technology on individuals and society,” commented Dr. Johnny CHAN, who led the class on this learning trip.

Sure enough, the learning trip was a valuable experience that gave students a behind-the-scenes look of how their online lives are connected.
