Short description of project
Andrographolide (AG) is a labdane diterpenoid, which is extracted from the Andrographis paniculata plant. Andrographolide has a broad range of therapeutic effects, including anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet aggregation activities and potential antineoplastic properties. However, andrographolide is insoluble in water (3.29 μg/mL), instability in the intestinal environment and the efflux by Pglycoprotein, which hinders its intestinal absorption and results in very low bioavailability in the human body (2.67%).

Our project will concentrate on the development of a highly-soluble and stable andrographolide
formulation. We will also systematically investigate molecular mechanism of the new andrographolide
formulation, which, to date, has been largely overlooked but is vital to the development of drug
formulations.
