The new semester is imminent. The campus is finally awakened from its summer hibernation, new students are coming in to the university, getting ready for the new chapter of their life. In the meantime, the Honours College (HC) is also preparing for the new semester, as it is the time for the new Class of 2020 to realize their identity as an HC student.

Last Wednesday, August 16, 2017, HC organized an Orientation and Registration Day for Class 2020. With the assistance of the fellow HC students, the sophomores were officially registered to be HC freshmen. They received their HC kits, in which include accessories exclusive to the college. After the registration, the new cohort listened to some introductory presentations given by the Dean, Prof. Kai Meng MOK, HC office staff, Ms. Loretta FONG and the Honours College Student Association (HCSA) President and Vice President, Ms. Miki I Teng LEI and Mr. John Ka Kit LEONG, which briefly familiarized the new students with the current structure and curriculum of the college and the HCSA activities.

After this session, the new students were invited to an interaction session. There were also light delicacies as refreshments for the participants. Senior HC members from the previous classes joined the freshmen and engaged in friendly conversations, during which the HC Dean, Prof. Kai Meng MOK also blended into the warm and delightful dialogues, sharing experience and stories to all of the HC students.

The whole event took 3 hours, but they were indeed very meaningful. To Class 2020, that was the first day of their great expectations, whilst to Class 2019 was the day on which obligation of senior cohorts was shouldered. The new semester has now begun, and let us take the success of this very first event as a fortunate omen to the coming semester.
