The festive Chinese New Year has come and gone, and with open arms the University of Macau welcomed her students back to resume their second semester. The end of February marked the beginning of the HC Promotion Month, from February 26 to March 11, 2018. To promote the image of the Honours College and inspire potential applicants, the Class 2020 has set in motion a series of workshops, sharing sessions and community activities.

On February 28, the first workshop “Flying to Leaderland” took off. Drawing inspiration from the events of Peter Pan, the organizers devised exciting games that required peer-to-peer communication and evoked gratitude. Team strategies were put to the test, and the students quickly learned that where the individual fails, the group succeeds. The workshop that followed, “Land On Leaderland’, built on its predecessor and took the concept of fun to new heights by having its participants compete in an orientation race around the campus.

While there was an exhibition and consultation booth outside E4 to provide information, curious undergraduates also signed up for the “Meet With HC Students” activity to gain valuable insight into life in the Honours College and its new program.

The event was not confined within the boundaries of the campus; students also went to the barbeque-friendly area that is Hac Sa Beach. The final activity “Clean the City” made them toil under the afternoon sun to sift litter from sand – a hands-on approach to understanding social responsibility and environmental awareness.

The Promotion Month, despite its name, was only held for two weeks this year. For the Class 2020, however, that short window of time was enough to propagate the appeal of the Honours College. Now, they can only wait and hope that some bright young minds would be enticed to seek this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
