With the rapid development of China’s economy and clearly stated function of cities, the Greater Bay Area has become an important part to foster the booming economy of China. It is necessary for HC students, as living in Macau – a indispensable part of the Greater Bay Area, to know more about the situation in this area. With that in mind, 19 HC students, along with 1 HC staff, 1 officer from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government and HC Dean Prof. LAI, set out on a 5-day study trip around the Greater Bay Area.

 

In the first two days, the group stayed at Zhongshan and visited several companies, such as Zhongzhi Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited and indelB, a company which develops car refrigerator; the team also headed for the Management Center of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, as well as attended a lecture of the introduction of “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”.

 

In the latter 3 days the team settled in Shenzhen, another city especially focuses on technology development in the Greater Bay Area, to visit more sites. These includes Overseas Chinese City, Royole Corporation, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub, etc. The group was honoured to have dinner with Deputy Director General of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr. Yi Peng Zhang, and exchange thoughts on the development of the Greater Bay Area and the role of Macau.

 

The trip ended in happiness and with rich learning outcomes. Students have gained a better and thorough understanding of the development of China, especially in the Greater Bay Area and the role of Macau in this group of cities.
